Russians Demidov, Silaev, Surin and Gridin selected in first round of NHL draft
Four Russians were selected in the first round of the National Hockey League (NHL) draft. This is reported by Elite Prospects.
“An incredible moment, dreams come true,” said forward Ivan Demidov, who was taken fifth overall by the Montreal Canadiens.
Demidov is the first Russian to be selected in the 2024 draft in Las Vegas. Next, at number ten, defenseman Anton Silaev left the draft; the rights to him were secured by the New Jersey Devils club. The Nashville Predators selected forward Egor Surin with the 22nd pick, and the Calgary Flames selected forward Matvey Gridin with the 28th pick.
The NHL Draft is an annual event, its essence is to secure the rights to the best young hockey players from around the world. The worse a team’s performance was in the previous season, the earlier it has the right to select a suitable young player.
