The Cabinet of Ministers urgently allocated half a billion rubles for visas to athletes for the Olympics

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that the government urgently allocated almost 500 million rubles from the budget to solve the visa difficulties of athletes for the Olympics. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“We, of course, have certain circumstances related to the fact that to some countries to participate in the qualifying stage, for example, to America, in order to get a visa, you need to fly to third countries where there are visa centers. Therefore, the government urgently allocated almost half a billion rubles so that our collections could fly and receive a visa, ”he said.

According to Chernyshenko, this creates certain inconveniences and interferes with the training process. At the same time, he expressed confidence that the difficulties will make the team even stronger, and the athletes will still win.

At the moment, the formation of the national team is at the final stage, in the expanded list – more than 600 people in 13 sports, Russia received 218 quotas out of 261 possible, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the reason for the diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing by the United States is the desire to restrain the development of China. According to the head of state, sport should unite peoples, but some countries use it for political purposes. The president also called the Americans’ decision a mistake.
