Argentina beat Chile 1-0 this Tuesday and secured qualification to the quarter-finals of the Copa América 2024. However, the bad news for the Argentines is that star Lionel Messi felt his right thigh and will need to go through medical exams.
“It bothers me a little, but I was able to finish playing. I hope it’s nothing serious. I didn’t feel a twinge, I was stiff. It’s difficult to move much because of the discomfort. We’ll see how it goes on Wednesday [no exame]”, Messi said in the mixed zone.
Messi also commented that he didn’t arrive for the match against Chile 100% physically, claiming that he’s been ill for a few days: “I’ve been suffering from a sore throat and fever for a couple of days, maybe that’s hurt me too.”

In the game against Chile, Argentina’s number 10 needed medical attention in the 23rd minute of the first half. Despite the pain, he stayed on the field until the last minute.
Already classified, Argentina will try to secure first place in Group A and will close the group stage of the Copa América next Saturday, at 9 pm (Brasília time). The opponent will be Peru, and the stage of the game will be the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami.
