Fetisov said that the West wants a split in Russian society
Two-time Olympic hockey champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov named the purpose of discrimination against Russian athletes by the West. His words are quoted by Regnum.
“It was clear that all these Western decisions were aimed at splitting our society. They cut off this hope like the thread on which everything was held,” Fetisov said.
He added that Russian athletes should have immediately refused to perform without the flag and anthem. “But we waited until the last minute, hoping for kindness and leniency. In the end, we came to where we came,” Fetisov noted.
Last December, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
