Russian figure skater Anastasia Golubeva, representing Australia, spoke about the atmosphere at the last world championship, which was held in Canada. Her words are quoted by Sport24.

The athlete stated that during lunch everyone spoke Russian. She emphasized that the Russian language is very popular among figure skaters, and called Russian the language of international communication in figure skating.

Golubeva, 18, was born in Moscow but moved to Australia in 2020. She competes in pairs skating with Australian Hector Giotopoulos Moore.

Russian figure skaters were banned from competing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) in March 2022. The last major competition for domestic athletes was the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
