Plushenko’s student Sofia Titova will play for the Armenian national team
Russian figure skater Sofya Titova changed her citizenship due to unfair judging. Sputnik Armenia writes about this.
“In the final of the Junior Grand Prix of Russia 2023, Sofya showed a unique performance, but the scores were not given for a long time. The stands were buzzing, and I realized that if she was not assessed fairly here, we would have to consider the option of competing for another country,” said the figure skater’s mother Lidiya Toropova.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) allowed the single skater Sofya Samodelkina, the sports pair Ekaterina Geinisch – Dmitry Chigirev, as well as ice dancing performer Annabel Morozov, to change their sports citizenship. They will move to the national teams of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the USA, respectively.
Russian figure skaters were banned from competing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) in March 2022. The last major competition for domestic athletes was the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
