Valery Nichushkin told how he played in the 2022 Stanley Cup finals with a fracture
Russian Colorado Avalanche hockey player Valery Nichushkin spoke about playing in the 2022 Stanley Cup finals with a broken leg. This became known from the athlete’s interview with the CHERKAS ATLANT YouTube channel.
“I already went to the training session in flip-flops, because my leg was so swollen that I couldn’t put on my shoes. I tell the doctor, let’s try three injections on the bottom of the foot. He shoots, I go out, make two snails, I understand – I can play. The leg is completely numb, there is no pain,” Nichushkin said. The Russian hockey player added that the consequence of playing with the fracture was ten bolts in his foot, which he was given during the recovery process.
On May 14, 2024, it became known that the National Hockey League suspended Nichushkin for six months with deprivation of wages. The reason is that the Russian entered the third stage of assistance to NHL players, which is aimed at treating alcohol or drug addiction, solving problems with gambling or mental health.
Nichushkin, as a player for Colorado, won the 2022 Stanley Cup, and the forward is also a bronze medalist at the 2017 World Championship as a member of the Russian national team. In the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Nichushkin played for Chelyabinsk Traktor and Moscow CSKA.
