Mexico beats Jamaica and debuts with victory in the group stage of the Copa América

This Saturday, at NRG Stadium, in Houston (Textas), the Mexico debuted on the right foot in the group stage of America Cup. The team beat Jamaica 1-0, with a goal scored by Gerardo Arteaga, in the complementary stage.

Thus, with the triumph in the first round, Mexico adds its first three points in the Copa América and is in second place in Group B. The Mexicans are behind only Venezuela, who scored the most goals (2) in the victory over Ecuador. Jamaica, without scoring in their debut, is at the bottom of the group, without scoring goals and with a negative balance of one goal.

In the next round of the Copa América, Mexico will face Venezuela next Wednesday, at 10pm (Brasília time), at the SoFi Stadium, in Los Angeles (California). Jamaica, in turn, on the same day, at 7pm, faces Ecuador, at the Allegiant Stadium, in Paradise (Nevada).

The Jamaicans found the net for Gonzalez, the Mexican goalkeeper, in the 7th minute of the second half. However, after analysis, Michail Antonio’s goal was canceled by the referee. The attacker was in an offside position during the play.

Mexico opened the scoring in the 24th minute. After a cross from the right, Jamaica’s defense barely cleared the danger. Then, the ball fell to the feet of Luís Romo, who passed it to Gerardo Arteaga. The number 6, on the line of the penalty area, sent a left-footed rocket into Waite’s left corner.
