Juventus agrees to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa

This Saturday, Juventus agreed to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, coming from Aston Villa, in England. According to the The Athleticthe agreement includes the payment of 50 million euros (around R$290 million at current prices) for the Brazilian, along with the transfer of Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea to the English team for 22 million euros (R$128 million).

Created by Vasco da Gama, the midfielder had spells at Girona and Manchester City before moving to Aston Villa in 2019. He was a crucial player in the team’s last campaign in the Premier League, scoring nine times and providing five assists, the which helped Villa finish fourth in the competition, qualifying for the Champions League.

Aston Villa needed to sell one of their most valuable players for a large sum before the end of June. The Birmingham team was ‘in the red’ with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and will use the sale to close the 2023/24 season without running the risk of punishment.

The arrangement for Douglas to go to Italy comes as the athlete finalizes his preparation for the Copa América together with the Brazilian team, which debuts in the competition next Monday, at 10pm (Brasília time). The 26-year-old player has been an important part of Dorival Júnior’s cycle as head of the Brazilian technical command.
