Portugal beats Turkey and guarantees first place in group F of the European Championship

The Portuguese team triumphed over Turkey this Saturday by the score of 3-0, in a game valid for the second round of group F of the Euro Cup. The goals of the match were scored by Bernardo Silva, Akaydin (own goal) and Bruno Fernandes.

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score goals, but broke another record by becoming the greatest assister in the history of the competition. With the pass for the third goal, Cristiano accumulated seven assists throughout his six appearances in the continental.

After failing to convince in their Euro debut against the Czech Republic, Portugal proved superior to the Turkish team in every aspect, dominating the game. The Portuguese have already secured first place in group F, as they have six points, against three from second-placed Turkey – the first tiebreaker criterion is direct confrontation. The Czech Republic and Georgia, who drew earlier, complete the group with one point each.

Portugal meets the schedule in the third round of the group stage against Georgia, at the Veltins Arena. Turkey is trying to guarantee qualification against the Czech Republic at the Volksparkstadion. Both matches will take place at the same time, next Wednesday, at 4pm (Brasília time).

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for the Portuguese team in the 21st minute. After a cross from Nuno Mendes was deflected by the defense, the ball fell to Bernardo’s good leg, which found the net.

The second Portuguese goal came in a somewhat bizarre way, when Akaydin, a Turkish defender, passed it to the goalkeeper with his head down and ended up sending it against his own goal, in the 28th minute. This was the sixth own goal of this edition of the European Championship.

At the beginning of the second half, in the 10th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo received the ball in front without any markers and preferred to pass it aside to Bruno Fernandes, who had an open path to finish without a goalkeeper.
