Fans were asked to hand over Russian flags upon entering the Serbia-Slovenia Euro match
A group of fans were asked to hand over Russian flags upon entering the Euro 2024 group stage second round match between Serbia and Slovenia. TASS reports this.
Security officials explained their request by saying that fans were carrying the flag of a country not taking part in the match to the game. The fans went to another entrance to the arena, turned over the tricolors and went inside, as they were mistaken for Serbs.
On June 20, the Secretary General of the Sebia Football Union, Jovan Surbatovic, addressed the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) with a demand to punish the national teams of Albania and Croatia. Fans of the teams chanted chants calling for physical violence against the Serbs. Surbatovich noted that if UEFA does not act, the Serbian national team may withdraw from the tournament.
At the time of publication of the news, the second half of the Serbia-Slovenia match is underway. The Slovenians lead with a score of 1:0, the goal was scored by Jean Karnicnik.
