Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov: I don’t position myself as number two at PSG

Russian goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain Matvey Safonov announced his readiness to become the main goalkeeper in the new club. He spoke about this in an interview with the Nobel YouTube channel.

“I don’t position myself as number two. I’m not ready to sit on the bench. If I start the season on the bench, it will definitely not be easy for number one. Because I’m going to constantly strain,” Safonov noted, adding that until now he has never lost a competition either in the club or in the Russian national team.

The footballer also thanked Krasnodar owner Sergei Galitsky for moving to PSG. Safonov noted that without the Krasnodar businessman he would not have had such a career path behind him.

On June 14, PSG announced the transfer of the 25-year-old Russian goalkeeper. The contract runs until 2029. According to insiders, the transaction amount was 20 million euros. Thus, Safonov’s transfer to PSG became a record for the French championship – no club had previously paid so much for a goalkeeper.
