State Duma deputy, Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova admitted that she is outraged by the fact that many Russian footballers are resting at foreign resorts during the winter break. Her words are quoted by the “Rating of Bookmakers”.
Zhurova drew attention to the fact that Russian footballers can afford a vacation in the Maldives, as they receive more than other athletes from among their compatriots. She recalled that, being an athlete and world champion in speed skating, she only once rested at sea.
She also admitted that she could not condemn football players, but noted that Russian players could have a rest at home – in the Crimea or Sochi.
In October, famous Russian biathlete, four-time Olympic champion Alexander Tikhonov proposed punishment for Russian football players who fail in European competitions. According to the eminent athlete, players need to be deprived of their passports so that they do not disgrace themselves in the international arena, as well as forced to enter the field in shorts and barefoot.
