English fans drank two months’ supply of beer in two days in a German restaurant
Fans of the England national team, who arrived in Gelsenkirchen for the match of the first round of the Euro 2024 group stage against the Serbia team, drank a two-month supply of beer in one of the city’s restaurants in two days. The Daily Mirror reports this.
English fans chose the Italian restaurant GE Piazza in the historical center of Gelsenkirchen as their unofficial base. In two days, the British drank more than 7,500 pints (one pint is 0.473176 liters, – approx. “Tapes.ru”) beer.
The restaurant owners said that on the eve of the match, on June 15, they sold 60 kegs of beer in 36 hours. Usually only two kegs are sold in the same period of time. The manager of the establishment said that this was the largest influx of visitors since 2006, when the England team played in Gelsenkirchen during the World Cup.
Before the match, the British, who were persuaded by Albanian fans, attacked a bar in which there were Serbian fans, among whom was the son of Serbian President Danilo Vucic. He was guarded by twenty special forces in civilian clothes. In the fight, the Serbs beat the British, the Albanians fled the scene.
The match between England and Serbia took place on June 16. The British team won with a score of 1:0. The only goal was scored by forward Jude Bellingham.
Euro 2024 takes place in ten cities in Germany from June 14 to July 14. The Russian national team misses the tournament due to the suspension of the Union of European Football Associations.
