UFC head Dana White: every time the fight approaches, Chimaev starts to get sick
The head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) spoke about the removal of Khamzat Chimaev from the fight against Australian Robert Whittaker. White’s words are quoted by MMA Fighting.
White noted that the main problem is that the organization does not know what exactly happened to Chimaev. “Every time a fight gets close, it starts to hurt. And he is not in the USA for our doctors to examine him. He’s kind of out of reach, which complicates the situation,” the UFC president said.
White added that Chimaev had not trained for several days, so the UFC decided to ban him from fighting. “I remember him on Fight Island. He asked him to give him a second fight next week. I let him. He was incredible. But lately you rarely see him in the Octagon,” White concluded.
Chimaev’s withdrawal from the fight against Whittaker became known on June 14. The fighter’s manager, Mahdi Shammas, said that this decision was made due to his client’s health. It is planned that instead of Chimaev in the main fight of UFC on ABC 6, Russian Ikram Aliskerov will fight Whittaker.
The 30-year-old Chimaev has fought 13 times in his career without suffering a single defeat. Previously, the fighter represented Sweden, and now competes under the flag of the UAE.
