Conor McGregor speaks out about his failed return to the UFC
Irish fighter of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Conor McGregor commented on his refusal to fight with American Michael Chandler. He published a post with an appeal on his Instagram page (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
“It’s very difficult to give up on your planned return to the UFC. I got injured and it took me longer to recover than I had,” McGregor said. He added that the decision was difficult for him and was made after consultation with doctors, the UFC and the team.
On June 14, it became known that the fight between McGregor and Chandler, scheduled for June 30, was officially canceled. The Irishman had his last fight in the UFC in the summer of 2021, when he lost to American Dustin Poirier by technical knockout after a broken leg.
McGregor, 35, is a former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion. In total, the Irishman has 28 fights, in which he won 22 victories and suffered six defeats.
