The IOC refused to allow Russian taekwondo athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris
The International Olympic Committee refused to admit all Russian taekwondo athletes who applied as neutral athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. The head coach of the Russian national team in this sport, Vadim Ivanov, told RIA Novosti about this.
“Yes, this is the final decision. As I understand it, it is not subject to any discussion or appeal. Without any explanation,” Ivanov said. He added that it is impossible to replace athletes who were refused participation.
Ivanov said that the Russians won four Olympic licenses. “We did everything we could under the current circumstances,” the coach said.
Earlier, the IOC announced the names of the first 14 Russian athletes admitted to participate in the Games in Paris. The list includes ten representatives of wrestling, three cyclists and one trampoline athlete.
The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not get to Paris. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
