With the English transfer window open this Friday, Manchester United wasted no time and made an offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. According to The Athleticfrom the USA, the offer was 35 million pounds (around R$238 million at the current price).
Everton should reject the proposal immediately, due to the value attributed to the player by the club. They believe Branthwaite, 21, is happy at the club and should only leave for a fee close to other defenders sold to top English clubs in recent years, such as Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Wesley Fofana (Chelsea) and Josko Gvardiol ( Manchester City) – all for an amount greater than 75 million pounds (around R$510 million).
🚨 Manchester United make opening offer to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. #MUFC bid for centre-back £35m. Deemed unacceptable + set to be rejected in due course. #EFC believe 21yo happy & would require much higher fee to consider sale @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/aJl8aUU42M

Despite winning the FA Cup at the end of the season, Manchester United did not have a satisfactory year, as the team finished the English Championship in eighth place and was eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League. Much of the team’s poor performance was due to the high number of injuries to the squad, especially to defenders.
With this recognized and the imminent departure of Raphael Varane, coach Erik Ten Hag wants new central defenders to make up the squad. Jarrad Branthwaite is attracting attention after his great season, which almost earned him a place in the squad for the European Championship – the player was cut from England’s final list.
