Manchester United announced this Friday that it will begin the renovation of the Carrington Training Centre, the team’s training center, next week. In total, 50 million pounds (around R$339.25 million) will be invested in modernizing the site. Previously, CT had been the target of criticism from striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who has two spells with the team (2003 to 2009 and 2021 to 2022).
In the Portuguese’s view, the space was outdated and there were no significant improvements since when he first arrived at the team.
“Nothing changes. Not just the jacuzzi, the pool, even the gym. Even some technology points, the kitchen, the chefs — which I appreciate, lovely people. They stopped in time, which surprised me a lot. I thought I would see different things: technology, infrastructure. Unfortunately, I saw a lot of things that I was used to seeing when I was 21, 22, 23 years old,” said CR7 in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan, before the start of the World Cup in December. 2022.

The works will begin on Monday (17) and should last around a year, that is, the entire 2024/25 season. Because of this, temporary adaptations will be made to the rest of Carrington’s facilities to allow the use of the English team’s players and staff.
The initial focus of the renovation will be on the areas of academia, medicine, nutrition and recovery, with an emphasis on creating more space for collaboration and innovation between athletes and team members.
“We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win. When we conducted a full review of Carrington’s training facilities and met with players from the men’s first team, it became clear that standards had fallen short. This project will ensure that the Manchester United’s training ground is once again renovated to the highest standards,” said Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United.
The project will be carried out by Foster + Partners, led by Manchester-born Lord Norman Foster. The architecture firm was responsible for the remodeling of Wembley and the planning of Lusail Stadium, one of the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
