“Our journey continues! I am very proud to call this club my home for another year. See you again at the Metropolitano soon” said the defender on his social networks.
Witsel joined the team led by Diego Simeone in 2022. Since then, the defender, who also plays as a midfielder, has played 94 games for the club.
Last season, he was the outfield player with the most minutes on the field. Overall, he was second only to goalkeeper Jan Oblak. In total, he played 51 games.
Now, he focuses on competing in the Eurocup for Belgium. His country debuts in the competition next Monday, at 1 pm (GMT), against Slovakia, at Deutsche Bank Park, in Frankfurt, Germany.
