Deputy Svishchev: we hope there will be no provocations against tennis players from Russia at the Olympic Games
The logical result of allowing Russian tennis players to the Olympics in a neutral status will be medals, said Dmitry Svishchev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Education and Sports. He responded to the decision of the International Tennis Federation in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“With great work and their success, Russian tennis players have earned the right to participate in the Olympic Games. Yes, with restrictions. But they went through a difficult path, including psychological pressure from neighbors and some other countries that demanded their exclusion and removal,” the politician said.
Svishchev appreciated the fact that in the end a compromise was found and the issue of admitting athletes was resolved, and called on them to show good tennis.
“We hope there will be no provocations from ill-wishers. Well, the logical result should be medals at the Olympic Games,” the deputy concluded.
Earlier it was reported that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) allowed all Russian tennis players from the application to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. Currently, the team includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Roman Safiullin, Daria Kasatkina, Lyudmila Samsonova, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Mirra Andreeva.
