Svetlana Zhurova called Sergei Pesyakov’s joke about billions from Zenit a hype
Olympic champion, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova appreciated the joke of Krylia Sovetov goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov about the billions he received from St. Petersburg Zenit. Her words are quoted by Metaratings.
She called the player’s statement hype. “I admit that they will deliberately joke about it, seeing what a stir their words cause. This affects their popularity and contracts. The more people write about such jokes, the more the players will receive salaries,” added Zhurova.
Earlier, sports lawyer Sergei Alekseev said that the ethics committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) could consider the case and apply sanctions to Pesyakov. This could be a fine or disqualification.
On June 11, Pesyakov, who previously represented Rostov, said that he receives many messages from fans after a scoring error in the game with Zenit. “My wife and I still can’t spend the billions that Zenit transferred to us. We’re trying, but it just doesn’t work,” he joked.
Earlier, sanctions were applied to Rubin Kazan midfielder Ruslan Bezrukov for a similar joke. He was conditionally disqualified for three months and fined 100 thousand rubles.
