Former striker Fernando Torres was announced this Tuesday as the new coach of Atlético de Madrid B. The Spaniard was in charge of the club’s youth team.
Torres joined the youth team in 2021 to be part of the coaching staff and the following season he took on the role of head coach. In three years in the delegation, he won two Spanish Championships in the category, a Champions Cup and an unprecedented qualification for the semifinals of the Youth League.

The coach spoke about the new challenge and was excited about taking over Atleti’s B team.
“I’m at home and I feel a huge responsibility since I decided to face this new stage. It’s been three years of constant learning. For me this step is very important and I want to have the ambition to do better every day, face the challenges that come and the responsibility in the best way and, at the same time, knowing that I’m not in a hurry and that I don’t need to take a false step. I accept it as a great challenge, with a lot of ambition and the peace of mind of knowing that we are prepared”, he stated.
Fernando Torres also revealed the team’s main objective.
“The first thing is to know what the objective of a secondary team is, which is to contribute many players to the main team. We have to insist to the players that their dream has to be to play for Atlético de Madrid and prepare them for the first team. The best way to do this is to compete and face a very complicated category with ambition, knowing that Atlético de Madrid requires you to give your all, try to compete as well as possible, have the team at the top of the table. This is what will prepare them for what comes next, I hope it will be our first team”, he reported.
Atlético de Madrid B competes in the third division of the Spanish Championship. Last season, with Luis García Tevenet at the helm, the Colchoneros finished ninth in Group B, having won 53 points in 38 games.
