Tennis player Kafelnikov: It’s too early for Andreeva to win Grand Slam tournaments

17-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva has no chance this year of winning the two Grand Slam tournaments remaining in the season – Wimbledon and the US Open, says tennis player, Honored Master of Sports Yevgeny Kafelnikov. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he spoke about the athlete’s prospects of winning the competition.

“There’s no chance at all. It’s too early for her to win. He will train, he will work – everything is possible. But not this year,” he shared his opinion.

Russian Mirra Andreeva rose 15 places in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, according to the organization’s website. She moved from 38th to 23rd position. The best Russian on the list remains Daria Kasatkina, who lost one place and took 14th place. Next to her are compatriots Lyudmila Samsonova and Ekaterina Alexandrova, who occupy 15th and 16th places, respectively.

At the completed Roland Garros championship in France, Andreeva became the only one of all Russian athletes who went the furthest and reached the semifinals. During the Australian Open in winter, Andreeva was eliminated in the fourth round.
