Primoz Roglic, winner of the Critérium du Dauphiné 2024

Primoz Roglic (BORA-hansgrohe) is the winner of the Critérium du Dauphiné 2024. The Slovenian had to suffer to defend the lead in the last stage, since Matteo Jorgenson (Jumbo-Lease a Bike) surpassed him by 54 seconds in a last stage won by Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers). However, Roglic had one minute and 2 seconds ahead of the American and in the end the victory did not escape him.
Nine cyclists formed the escaped d4e group: Bart Lemmen (Jumbo-Lease a Bike), Marc Soler (UAE Emirates), Tim Wellens (UAE Emirates), Bruno Armirail (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale), David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), Omar Fraile (INEOS Grenadiers), Guillaume Martin (Cofidis), Eduardo Sepulveda (Lotto-Dstny) and Sean Quinn (EF Education-Easy Post). They arrived with an advantage over the peloton on the last climb.
However, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) attacked in the group of favorites and he was catching all the rivals in front of him. Even so, the Italian did not stay in the lead for long, as Roglic’s BORA-hansgrohe picked up the pace and caught Ciccone.
With 5 kilometers to go until the finish line Carlos Rodríguez (INEOS Grenadiers) accelerated and Primoz Roglic was cut off. After, Rodríguez, Matteo Jorgenson (Jumbo-Lease a Bike) and Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) remained at the head of the race.
Already in the last kilometer Gee was left behindso the stage victory was decided between Rodríguez and Jorgenson. In the final meters Rodríguez was better than his rival and won the victory. Jorgenson was second and Gee third. Roglic crossed the finish line 48 seconds behind the first two.
The final general classification was as follows: Roglic first, Jorgenson second to 8 seconds and Gee third at 36 seconds. The Basque Oier Lazkano (Movistar) was ninth 2 minutes and 54 seconds behind the leader and Mikel Landa (Soudal Quick Step) tenth 4 minutes and 13 seconds from the winner.
