SKA: the fire at the home arena in St. Petersburg did not affect the team’s preparations
The fire that occurred on the night of June 9 at the SKA Arena in St. Petersburg did not in any way affect SKA’s pre-season preparations. The stadium was not involved in this process, according to the hockey club’s Telegram channel.
SKA played home matches in this arena in the second half of the KHL season. The team’s press service clarified that the hockey club’s players are currently undergoing pre-season training in Novogorsk and Sochi. “HC SKA does not have a contractual relationship with the arena and was not present there in any way,” the statement says.
The club added that the players will play the matches of the pre-season home tournament named after N. G. Puchkov at the Ice Palace of St. Petersburg. “Therefore, this fire does not affect our schedule in any way,” SKA clarified. The club called the fire an “unpleasant moment.” The press service noted that “nothing is more important than the safety of everyone who could be in the arena.”
The fire at the home arena of the SKA hockey club was initially reported by the TASS agency. According to representatives of the operational services, at the height of the fire there was open burning and heavy smoke inside the stadium.
As a result of the incident, 200 square meters of stands in the square burned down, as well as the plastic covering of the bowl of the main arena. The online publication Fontanka named a burning advertising board as the main cause of the fire. The amount of damage caused to the arena worth 60 billion rubles is being established.
