The Colombian team beat the United States 5-1, this Saturday, in a friendly held at the FedEx Field Stadium, in Maryland-USA. Even playing against São Paulo, midfielder James Rodríguez was a starter in the team led by Nestor Lorenzo. Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios was the scorer of the third Colombian goal.
The South Americans opened the scoring after just six minutes, with midfielder Jhon Arias, from Fluminense. At 19, it was Internacional striker Rafael Borré’s turn to go to the net, with a bicycle kick.
The home team scored 13 minutes into the second half, with Timothy Weah, but Colombia took no notice and scored three more goals, with Richard Rios, at 32, Jorge Carrascal, at 40, and Luis Sinisterra, at 43.
This was the Colombian team’s penultimate friendly before the start of the Copa América. The team still faces Bolivia, at home, next Saturday. In the continental tournament, Colombia is in group D, the same as Brazil. Also on the list are Costa Rica and Paraguay.
The United States will face Brazil next Wednesday, also in a friendly manner. In the Copa América, the North Americans are in group C, alongside Panama, Bolivia and Uruguay.
