Zhurova: the mayor of Paris cannot guarantee the safety of Russians at the 2024 Olympics
Olympic champion, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova expressed concern about the issue of ensuring the safety of Russians at the 2024 Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The deputy recalled that the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, stated that it was impossible to guarantee the safety of Russians at the Games. “For her, as well as for the Olympic organizers, this is a big problem and additional expenses. After all, if there are no Russians at the Olympics, then there is no need to worry about it. And if they do, you don’t know where anything might come from,” Zhurova said, noting Russophobic sentiments.
The International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
