An advertisement for the 2024 Olympics with Elena Isinbayeva and the Russian flag was noticed in Paris
A poster advertising the 2024 Olympic Games appeared in Paris, depicting track and field athlete Elena Isinbayeva with the Russian flag. The banner was noticed by the husband of the Olympic champion in the high jump, Russian Maria Lasickene, Vladas Lasickas and reported it on Instagram (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
The poster shows Isinbayeva from behind after winning the pole vault at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. RIA Novosti notes that the advertisement was developed by Iceberg in May 2020.
The International Olympic Committee admitted Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
