Peskov called the decision to deprive the FCR of FIDE membership for 2 years discriminatory
The Commission of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on Friday, June 7, deprived the Russian Chess Federation (RFC) of membership in the organization for two years.
The reason for this decision was that the FSR includes persons under sanctions. The disqualification was also influenced by the fact that the FSR held tournaments and events in Crimea. The last point was non-compliance with political neutrality. In addition, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, who is a member of the FSR Board of Trustees, received a reprimand.

FCR will appeal FIDE’s decision
Dvorkovich promised that the FCR will protest the relevant decision; the Federation insists on considering this issue at the FIDE General Assembly in September 2024.
Of course, the Assembly cannot fail to consider such a significant issue for the entire world chess movement

Russia claims discrimination
Press Secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the deprivation of FCR membership in FIDE, called this decision discriminatory.
Russia hopes that the FIDE decision was made due to a misunderstanding that can be overcome

In turn, the twelfth world chess champion Anatoly Karpov, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, called the deprivation of FCR membership in FIDE outrageous and abnormal.
It’s outrageous! They are doing the right thing (in the FSR) in that they are going to file a protest. Let me remind you that FIDE was founded a hundred years ago, during the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. Everything that is happening now (with this organization) is not normal

Previously, a Russian chess player was excluded from the FIDE rating
On May 31, it became known that Russian chess player Sergei Karjakin was excluded from the FIDE rankings for June, where he was in 12th place. Karyakin himself called the solution technical.
I had no international parties during this period. You need to play one game to get back into the rankings. Is there a goal to return to the rankings? I don’t pay attention to him

In November 2023, FIDE extended permission for Russian and Belarusian chess players to compete under the organization’s flag. It applies to those who already act in a neutral status and will last until January 1, 2025.
