The head of the RFU named the ideal number of friendly games per year for the Russian national team

Dyukov said that it would be ideal for the Russian national team to play 10 games a year

The head of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Alexander Dyukov, named the ideal number of friendly matches for the Russian national team in one calendar year. His words are quoted by Match TV.

According to him, we need to proceed from two meetings in one window of the International Football Federation (FIFA). “If you take five windows, ten matches. During this June window we had the opportunity to play another game, but the season was tense and dramatic. Therefore, we decided to hold one match,” Dyukov said.

In 2023, the Russian national team held six friendly matches. Two took place in March, two in October, one in September and one in November.

Russian football clubs and national teams do not take part in international tournaments by decision of FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The restrictions came into force in February 2022.
