Foreign Ministry: provocations are possible against Russians at the Olympics in Paris

At the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, there is a high probability of provocations against Russians. The head of the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Klimov, spoke about this in an interview with TASS.

“The current French authorities are pursuing a generally unfriendly course towards our country, and the French media are deeply affected by aggressive Russophobia, which cannot but have a negative impact on the general atmosphere in France regarding Russia and its citizens,” said Klimov.

According to him, “the statements of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, that Russian athletes will not be welcome” are indicative in terms of the sentiments disseminated by official structures. “Such a situation, of course, creates a breeding ground for the emergence and activation of all kinds of provocateurs,” the diplomat noted.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, the conductor of the anti-Russian fuss.

The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
