World number two Arina Sabalenka explained her defeat to 17-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Her words are quoted by the “Championship” with reference to the representative of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for public relations.

According to the Belarusian athlete, she fell ill with a stomach infection. “It was hard for me physically. I did everything possible to cope with this,” Sabalenka said.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF), Shamil Tarpishchev, said that Andreeva won a ticket to the 2024 Olympics. The games will begin on July 26.

On June 5, 17-year-old Andreeva reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. The Russian, ranked 38th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), beat Sabalenka with a score of 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4.
