Tarpishchev said that Russian Mirra Andreeva should get to the 2024 Olympics
President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev assessed Mirra Andreeva’s chances of getting to the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Tarpischev said that after reaching the semifinals of Roland Garros, Andreeva should become the fourth racket of Russia. “This means that she gets to the Olympics,” he concluded.
On June 5, 17-year-old Andreeva reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career. In the quarterfinals of the French Open, the Russian woman, ranked 38th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), beat world number two Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4.
Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. No more than four athletes per country in each category will be able to compete in the tennis tournament. Applicants will be determined by ratings; the final decision on Russian participants in the competition will be made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
