Luis de la Fuente renews Spain coach until 2026

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed this Tuesday the renewal of the coach of the main team, Luis de la Fuente, whose contract will be extended until 2026, the year of the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The announcement formalizes an agreement that had been announced in February.

“The RFEF informed the national coach about the effective agreement to renew his contract, announced in February, as well as the renewal of his technical committee,” the entity said in a statement.

De la Fuente was appointed coach in December 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique after Spain’s elimination by Morocco in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

His contract ended on June 30th, in the middle of the European Championship, but there was a renewal clause that was activated.

Since the coach’s arrival, the team has won the 2023 Nations League and qualified for the European Championship, in which they will be seeded in Group B alongside Albania, Croatia and Italy.

In 13 games, De La Fuente has a record of nine wins, two draws and two defeats.
