Southgate admits difficulty in cutting seven players from England’s Euro squad

England beat Bosnia this Monday 3-0, at St. James’ Park, in a friendly preparation for the European Championship. After the match, coach Southgate admitted that he is having difficulty cutting seven of the 33 players called up in the competition’s pre-list. The coach will have to send the final list, with 26 athletes, by Friday (7).

“Of course it will be difficult. I want to make fair and courageous decisions, but these decisions will always be subjective. I will talk to the team and we will find the best way to do this,” he told Channel 4.

Furthermore, Southgate also analyzed the English team’s victory and praised the team’s performance.

“I’m satisfied with the intensity of the game. It was important in the physical aspect. It was important to play against a defense with five, we can face that in Germany, especially in the first two games, so we need to find solutions,” he said.

“If you stay patient and keep pushing, the game will open up like it did before. I think, in the end, the score reflected the performance. There were a lot of good individual performances,” he concluded.

On the day the final list is sent, Friday (7), England will play another friendly, this time against Iceland. The ball will roll from 3:45 pm (Brasília time), at Wembley.

This will be the last match before the start of the European Championship, which will be held between June 14th and July 14th, in Germany.
