The Guardian: Thousands of homeless people expelled from Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympics
More than 12,000 homeless people have been removed from Paris and its surrounding areas as part of an operation ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Guardian reports this.
According to the source, the process of relocating tent cities in Paris began actively in April 2023. It is noted that 12,545 people were resettled in 2024. The company relocating homeless people said at least 20,000 homes are needed across France, including seven thousand in the Ile-de-France region, to tackle the problem.
Earlier, ecologists conducted tests and found that the water quality in the Seine still does not meet the standards recommended for swimming. Scientists have highlighted the risks for athletes who will take part in triathlon and open water swimming competitions during the Olympics.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
