Bayern Munich director confirms return of athlete loaned to Leverkusen

Bayern Munich general director Max Eberl confirmed this Tuesday the return of defender Josip Stanisic, who stood out during his loan at Bayer Leverkusen last season.

“It will play an important role for us,” he said in an interview with the newspaper Bild.

Recently, Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro had already revealed that the 24-year-old Croatian athlete was unlikely to remain in the team.

“Stanisic has a contract with Bayern Munich and, as long as nothing changes, I assume he will return to Bayern. If his wishes are different, he will have to talk to us. But for now, that is not the case,” he told Bild.

Stanisic was one of the main athletes in the historic season of the team led by coach Xabi Alonso. In total, he played 38 games, scored four goals and provided six assists.

Acting as a defender and right winger, the defender stood out for his versatility and quality in both the offensive and defensive areas.

In 2023/24, Bayer Leverkusen played 53 matches, won 43, drew nine and lost just one — the Europa League final to Atalanta 3-0. Furthermore, they won the first German Championship in their history undefeated and the German Cup.
