Francisco Javier García Pimienta, coach of Las Palmas for the last two seasons, will be the coach of Sevilla next year, the Andalusian club announced this Sunday in a statement.
Revealed as a player and coach in Barcelona’s youth categories, the 49-year-old Catalan coach replaces Quique Sánchez Flores, who decided to leave the club despite having managed to save the team from relegation.
“Sevilla FC has reached an agreement with Francisco José García Pimienta (Barcelona, 3 August 1974) to become the coach of the first team for the next two seasons”, informed the club, winner of seven Europa Leagues, which last season finished in 14th place after flirting with relegation throughout the first round.

This poor start to the season led to several coaching changes: José Luis Mendilibar, the coach who led the club to win the 7th Europa League, and Uruguayan Diego Alonso were fired due to poor results, before the arrival of Sánchez Flores.
With García Pimienta, Las Palmas finished in 16th place after a brilliant start to the season that led the team to even dream of qualifying for a European competition.
