José Mourinho confirms agreement to manage Fenerbahce

Portuguese coach José Mourinho, fired in January by Roma, announced his arrival at Turkish Fenerbahce on Saturday night (1st), in a video published on social media.

“Good evening, Fenerbahce fans. See you tomorrow in Kadikoy (the Istanbul neighborhood where the club is located) and we will start our journey together,” said the 61-year-old coach in a video posted on the club’s official profile on ‘X’.

According to private television network NTV, Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new coach will be made official on Sunday.

In recent days, the Turkish specialized press has been circulating rumors about the imminent arrival of the famous coach, who used the word ‘merhaba’ (hello) in Turkish.

According to leaked information, the club’s president, Ali Koç, offered a contract of “two years plus an optional” to Mourinho, former coach of Real Madrid and Chelsea, among other giants of world football.

The Portuguese thus moves to one of the three big clubs in Istanbul to try to restore glory to a team that has not won the Turkish championship for ten years.

José Mourinho had to pack his bags last winter in Europe, two and a half years after his arrival in Rome, with the team in a discreet 9th position in Serie A and amid criticism of the club’s referees and directors by the veteran coach.

In Turkey, he will lead the bench of the eleventh team of his career as head coach, after a career marked by several prestigious titles.

Among others, Mourinho won the Champions League with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010), as well as the Premier League with Chelsea (2005, 2006 and 2015), the Italian Serie A (2009 and 2010) and LaLiga Spanish (2012).

After so much glory, his career seems to be in decline in recent years, with discreet spells at Manchester United, Tottenham and Rome.
