From this Saturday onwards, FIFA will expand the measures that allow coaches and non-biological mothers to combine motherhood and football, also promoting family contact during major tournaments.
Three years after imposing maternity leave of “at least 14 weeks” on its 211 federations for players, paid with “a minimum of two thirds of their contractual salary”, the world organization establishes the same right for coaches in regulation that comes into force on Saturday.
An “adoption leave” of at least eight weeks will also be introduced for clubs if the child is under two, a period reduced to four weeks for a child aged two to four and two weeks if older, said the organization in a statement this Friday.
Furthermore, a specific measure was announced for homoparental families and players or coaches “other than the biological mother” will benefit for at least eight weeks after birth.
To replace players who have been removed, clubs will be able to register a new player outside of the usual periods, FIFA highlighted. Furthermore, the federations that are part of the entity will be encouraged to “allow players to have more contact with their families when they are on the national team”.
