Vyacheslav Fetisov compared the Russians at the 2024 Olympics with intelligence officers

Two-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov spoke about the possible participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by TASS.

The ex-player compared the country’s representatives to intelligence officers. “The situation there will be such that they will be constantly provoked, and it seems to me that everyone will make their own decision whether to go to the Olympics or not. Go on reconnaissance, behind enemy lines, constantly look back, endure these humiliations,” Fetisov said.

Earlier, the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, called representatives of the country who want to perform at the Games in Paris “homeless.” The head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, also criticized Russian tennis players who want to compete at the Olympic Games. He called them a team of foreign agents.

In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
