Czech President Pavel was glad that Russia was absent from the World Hockey Championship
Czech President Petr Pavel was happy about the absence of the Russian team at the 2024 World Hockey Championship. His words are quoted by iSport.cz.
“Because of the way they behaved at the previous championship in the Czech Republic, it was right that they were not here,” Pavel said. He drew attention to the fact that the Russian team behaved unsportsmanlike in the final match against the Canadian national team.
The World Hockey Championship ended on May 26. The gold medals were won by the hosts of the championship, the Czech team. In the final, the Czechs defeated the Swiss team with a score of 2:0. The Russians did not take part in the tournament due to the suspension of the International Hockey Federation.
In the final of the 2015 World Cup, the Russian team lost to Canada with a score of 1:6. After this, domestic hockey players left the site without waiting for the Canadian anthem.
