Ovechkin preferred winning the Stanley Cup to achieving the NHL sniper record
Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin chose between winning the Stanley Cup and the National Hockey League (NHL) sniper record. He spoke about this in a show on the YouTube channel “This is hockey, brother!”
Ovechkin chose winning the Stanley Cup over achieving a sniper record. “It’s better to do everything together: and beat [рекорд]and win,” he added.
The 38-year-old Ovechkin ranks second on the list of top snipers in NHL history with 853 goals scored in the regular season. The record for this indicator belongs to Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who scored 894 goals.
Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005, and throughout his overseas career he has played for Washington. In 2018, he and the team won the Stanley Cup.
