Figure skater Elizaveta Khudayberdieva, performing in ice dancing with Yegor Bazin, answered the question about changing citizenship. Her words are reported by Match TV.
The athlete said that she was considering the option of obtaining a passport from Uzbekistan, since her father is a citizen of this country. “But as soon as I started to think about it seriously, the realization came very clearly: I can’t, I simply won’t be able to perform under a different flag and not hear the anthem of my country,” Khudaiberdieva shared.
Earlier, Khudayberdieva revealed the attitude towards Russians in Europe. “I can say with confidence: Russians are loved, Russians are missed,” she said.
Khudaiberdieva, paired with Bazin, is a champion, silver and bronze medalist of the Russian championships. The couple also won several times at the Russian Grand Prix.
