Russian Islam Makhachev said that he could become a UFC champion in two divisions
Russian mixed style fighter (MMA) Islam Makhachev announced his desire to win two championship belts of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A recording of the press conference before the fight with American Dustin Poirier is available on TheMacLife YouTube channel.
Makhachev said that he would consider moving to the welterweight category. “I can become a champion in two divisions, and I’m looking forward to this chance,” he said.
Makhachev and Poirier will meet in the main event of UFC 302 in the USA on June 1. If the Russian fighter wins, he will defend the championship belt for the third time and repeat Nurmagomedov’s record for the number of title defenses for the lightweight weight category.
32-year-old Makhachev spent 26 fights in his professional career, losing in only one of them. In total, he has 25 victories, 16 of which are early. The 35-year-old Poirier won 30 victories and suffered 8 defeats. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
