Russian champion gymnast Mamun spoke about her coach’s harassment

Russian Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Margarita Mamun spoke about the harassment she experienced as a child from a coach. The athlete spoke out on the Vitya Kravchenko YouTube channel.

The Russian woman did not name the specialist, noting that he was a man. “There was sitting on the knees, some touching, supposedly a foot massage, when you realize that your hands are going much higher than they should be. At such moments I was paralyzed; I could not fully understand what it was. Fortunately, the worst thing didn’t happen in my case,” said the gymnast.

She added that this coach is no longer alive. “I don’t know what I would have done if he had continued to live. There would probably definitely be trials, I would want that. He brought a lot of pain to people,” Mamun said.

Mamun won gold in the all-around at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. The 28-year-old gymnast also has seven gold medals at the World Championships and four victories at European championships. She retired from acting in 2017.
