Swimmer Evgeny Somov said that Americans treat him absolutely normally
Russian swimmer Evgeny Somov spoke about life in the USA. His words are quoted by Sports.ru.
The athlete said that the Americans treat him absolutely normally. “Nobody reacts to me like, ‘Ugh, Russian, we won’t work with you,’” he added. Somov emphasized that he moved to the USA for the sake of new experience and a good education.
Earlier, Somov explained the reluctance of his compatriots to receive neutral status to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. According to the athlete, obtaining the status entails many negative consequences.
25-year-old Somov lives and trains in the USA. On May 16, at a competition in America, he broke the Russian record in the 100-meter breaststroke. However, the achievement will not be ratified, since the time was shown at a tournament outside the country and not as part of the Russian national team.
