The Anti-Violence Commission proposed sanctioning 6,000 euros and 18 months of prohibition of access to sports venues to a fan who was a member of a radical group of Atlético de Madrid who, during the League match against Athletic, used a megaphone to utter racist insults and shouts at a player from the visiting team (Nico Williams) every time he approached the sideline.

These facts caused the referee to have to stop the match and order the club to immediately activate the anti-racism protocol through the stadium public address system, recalled the Ministry of the Interior.

Williams explained after the match that heard “monkey sounds” coming from the stands when he went to take a corner around the 40th minute and assured that “it is not normal that they still insult you because of your skin tone.”

“I have heard monkey sounds”

“I went to take the corner and I heard monkey sounds. The truth is that there have been few. There are stupid people everywhere. Nothing happens. We have to keep working. We hope this changes little by little. We are fighting internal and external against that. And that’s what it is,” he said in statements to DAZN, after hearing those sounds. he celebrated his subsequent goal with “a little anger”.

In the first moment, the mattress club was sanctioned with the partial closure of its stadium for two games and the payment of a fine of 20,000 euros, but both measures were annulled after the appeal presented by Atlético before the Appeal Committee.
