Alex Sandro says goodbye to Juventus after nine years: “I can only thank you”

After nine years, left-back Alex Sandro left Juventus. The 33-year-old Brazilian said goodbye to the club this Monday and spoke about the feeling of leaving the team.

“There is one word that sums up what Juventus is for me: family. I’m sure I’ll leave a lot behind… It’s difficult to talk just about football, I also have two girls who grew up here, who are Juventus fans, who want to use I wear Juventus shirts every day and when I take them to school, they don’t want to hear ‘Baby Shark’, they just want to hear the Juventus anthem,” he said.

In his last game, he scored one of the winning goals against Monza 2-0, on Saturday (25), at home, in the 38th round of the Italian Championship.

In total, Alex Sandro played 327 games for the Italian team and became the foreigner with the most appearances in the club’s history, alongside Pavel Nedved. In total, there were 209 wins, 60 draws and 58 defeats. During his time with the team, he scored 16 goals and provided 31 assists.

Furthermore, the defender won five Italian leagues, five Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups. The player was also part of the campaign that took the club to the Champions League final in 2017, which ended with Real Madrid as champions.

“The sweetest memories are many: trophies and finals. We had a great journey to the Champions League final… but even the complicated moments taught us a lot,” said the left-back.

Finally, the Brazilian spoke about his future and declared his support for Juventus.

I still don’t know where I will end up, but I will always want the best for Juventus. It’s been a fantastic journey. When I remember and talk about this journey of life, my eyes always get teary, like they are now. I wish you all the best.”
